Look at that luscious, deep red, grade A tuna. It was love at first sight with this tuna the other day at the market. It caught our eye and we instantly knew that this was the one. All jokes aside, this was our first time buying fresh sashimi quality tuna and we were pretty excited about our purchase. We decided to roll this tuna into a beautiful inside out roll and topped it all off with some wasabi crunch.
Three inside out rolls
○ 200g sashimi grade tuna ○ 1 avocado ○ 2 cups of sushi rice ○ 1/2 cup rice vinegar ○ 1/4 cup white sugar ○ 1 cup panko breadcrumbs ○ 1 tablespoon wasabi powder ○ 1 tablespoon vegetable oil ○ 3 sheets of nori ○ 1 cucumber
They see me rollin’
Prepare the sushi rice in a rice cooker by adding 4 cups of water. Once ready and still hot, stir in the rice vinegar and sugar. Heat a large frying pan with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil on medium high heat and add in the breadcrumbs. They will fry really fast, so keep an eye on them. Remove after about a minute. Place on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Then place the fried panko breadcrumbs in a bowl and stir in the wasabi powder. Cut the tuna avocado and cucumber into long strips (about 1 cm thick). Roll the rolls like this. Once you have an inside out roll, cover it in wasabi crunch by rolling it in the wasabi breadcrumb mixture. Carefully cut the roll into equally sized pieces.
Having these rolls for dinner was truly special! Sometimes you just gotta treat yourself, you know. We’re all about crunchy rolls, but the wasabi twist really sealed the deal this time!
